Josh

I first met Josh at the Canada Games. We were both young, excited athletes competing in Track and Field for Team Ontario—me in long jump and high jump, Josh in every single wheelchair event. What I remember most about his races was his complete domination! He would let the younger Ontario teammates draft behind him and encouraged them during the race, only to take off like a bat out of hell on the final lap and crush everyone else in the field. It wasn’t even close.

A few years later, Josh won the Boston Marathon with a blistering time of 1:18:25, setting the fastest wheelchair marathon ever recorded at the time! He went on to compete in multiple Paralympic events and other high-profile meets all around the world.

I snapped these images of Josh at his home. It’s neat to see athletes away from their sports, what the hobbies they are drawn to, and the interests they develop. For Josh, it’s undoubtedly art. He’s an accomplished visual artist and is also quite talented in music.

You can check out what he’s up to now at his website. https://joshcassidy.com/
